Time for some friction
Boredom just isn’t as boring as it used to be. If a moment in life feels less stimulating than another, we reach for the phone. We can access infinite entertainment with minimal effort.
How much friction would need to be introduced to help you avoid falling down that rabbit hole?
People who design experiences are usually tasked with removing friction. But when attention is scarce, friction can be the tool that allows users to remain focused and intentional about what they do and when they do it. Adding barriers such as passcodes, confirmation screens, and delayed load times can introduce a barrier to mindless activation.
